77 years ago on 2 February, 1943, the Battle of Stalingrad which was one of the major and longest confrontations of second world war came to an end as the Soviet Troops accepted the surrender of German Troops.

As the Nazi General Friedrich Paulus finally had to perform an unwilling tactical surrender pressured by his troops even against direct orders from high command, Hitler was furious and later confided that Paulus "could have freed himself from all sorrow and ascended into eternity and national immortality, but he prefers to go to Moscow."
