Today is the 36th birth anniversary of Elizabeth Holmes, a renowned fraudster and founder of Teranos who claimed to have revolutionized blood testing by using surprizingly small volumes of blood, such as those gotten from a fingerprick.
By 2015, the Forbes magazine had named Holmes "the youngest and wealthiest self-made female billionaire in America" on the basis of a $9 billion valuation of her company Theranos. But soon after that, a series of journalistic and regulatory investigations started revealing doubts about the company's mindblowing technological claims. In 2018, the US SEC charged Theranos and Holmes with deceiving investors by "massive fraud".
